Why Are Cultural Societies Like Sing Sing Unpopular?

This is the question I asked myself when I heard about opposition from record shops and record labels.
Apparently they think they stand to lose a considerable amount of money in sales which could be threatened if members of these cultural societies borrow C.D.'s and record them at home.
Personally I find this a rather poor argument.
I am an English student and have been studying in Siena for the past semester. I come from London where, like the rest of the U.K., cultural societies are unheard of. The only place where CD's can be borrowed for a small amount of money are the public libraries. The choice is rather limited, however, especially regarding independent music, which is what I'm into.
Being a student, I am not terribly wealthy and I cannot afford the high price of CD's. I was therefore over the moon when I discovered Sing Sing. It gave me the chance to listen to Cds, I would otherwise never have listened to, and this is my point. If Sing Sing didn't exist, I would not have automatically gone to the record shop to purchase Cds. I have to know what I'm buying before spend a load of money on a CD. If the CD from Sing Sing pleases me enough, I'll go out and buy it, if not, I won't buy it. It's very simple. Anyone who appreciates good sound quality will buy the CD.
Thus I shall let the facts speak for themselves: since becoming a member of Sing Sing I have bought more CDs than ever before.

Perché società culturali come il Sing Sing sono male accette? Questa è la domanda che mi sono posta quando ho sentito parlare dell’opposizione a queste da parte dei negozi di dischi e delle etichette discografiche.
Potrebbero pensare che stiano perdendo un bel po’ di soldi in vendite, e che queste potrebbero essere danneggiate se i soci di queste società culturali noleggiassero e duplicassero CD a casa. Personalmente trovo che questa sia una scusa piuttosto debole.
Sono una studentessa inglese e da quest’ultimo semestre sto studiando a Siena. Sono di Londra, dove, come nel resto del Regno Unito, non si sente mai parlare di società culturale. Gli unici posti dove è possibile noleggiare i cd per pochi soldi sono le biblioteche pubbliche.
Comunque la scelta è piuttosto limitata, particolarmente per quanto concerne ciò che mi piace, ovvero la musica indipendente. In quanto studentessa non sono spaventosamente ricca e non mi posso permettere l’alto prezzo dei Cd. Quindi ho toccato il cielo con un dito quando ho scoperto il Sing Sing.
Mi ha dato la possibilità di ascoltare i cd che altrimenti non avrei mai potuto ascoltare, questo è il nodo della questione.
Se il Sing Sing non fosse esistito, non sarei automaticamente andata al primo negozio di dischi a comprare cd.
Devo sapere cosa sto comprando prima che spenda un sacco di soldi per un cd. Se il cd dal Sing Sing mi soddisfa abbastanza uscirò e lo comprerò, in caso contrario non lo comprerò.
E’ semplicissimo. Chiunque apprezza sonorità di buona qualità comprerà il cd.
Quindi lascio che i fatti parlino da sé: non ho mai comprato tanti cd quanti da quando sono socia al Sing Sing.
